Cliffs Notes:

People can't control a car unless its equipped with fancy traction control, ABS, etc...

How would everyone here fare?

My 240SX is the only car I've owned with ABS. And while my GSL had an LSD, it wasn't exactly the ass-saving type. So I know I'd do well.

For some people, that may be true. I personally have had 3 cars w/o ABS, and I've been able to handle them just fine in dangerous situations.

On the other hand...

Both cars we have now have ABS/Traction Control, and it's saved my ass more than once. I think people have been spoiled by these features, and they'd have a hard time controlling a car without abs, traction control, etc. in dangerous situations.

Up till now, I've owned only pre-90s cars... All without ABS or that other junk, and only one with LSD....

1987 Honda Accord DX

1987 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II

1985 300ZX N/A

1989 240SX

1985 Mazda RX-7 GS

I think I'd be just fine.... :D

i've never had a car with ABS or traction control...

93 camry
95 240sx
05 civic

yes, none of traction control or ABS. i got mad jdm skills j0.

i think i'd do ok. i used to be iffy on the braking, but about a year ago i got into a situation where my brakes locked up and i would've hit if i didn't release and reapply. i did so without thinking. so i think i'm good. it's always bad to be overconfident though.

Huh... didn't think Honda would make such a thing, since their focus these days is to be the safest economy car.

I think they were too nice in that test, having considered it for a while. They should have put them in some sloppy old car like a 240Z or an MGB

does that count???

honda cares about the bottom line... not safety at all IMO.

i have disk brakes front and drum brakes rear
no ABS
no traction control
tires = bridgestone potenzas
gosh, im not even sure i have air bags.

potenzas really feel like some of the sloppiest tires i've ever driven on. the car is also mysteriously tail happy. half pressure braking in any kind of wet weather = hydroplaning. in perfectly dry weather, slight braking during cornering will result in a sloppy rear end. i wonder how normal drivers are supposed to survive this car?

this isn't even the crappiest model.

its a LX special edition (se meaning you get a shitty cd changer, useless spoiler and some 'special' i.e. overstocked alloy wheels). my guess is they had a lot of stocked up extra add ons that people never bought, so they threw them on the 05 civics and badged it as a SE. can't use 'em on the 06 civics anyway.

below this is the DX, VP and possibly some other even shittier trims that i forgot. the lowest trim doesn't even have a radio or air conditioning. on the plus side it comes in around $11,000.

Until this year my winter car was a 1st gen RX-7 with LSD and all-season tires, so I'm going to guess that I'd do just fine. With the temperatures we got to last year, my tires had the stiffness of hockey pucks and the power assist on my brakes didn't work for the first few blocks.

I miss my 1st gen in the snow though. This CRX I'm driving right now has ZERO personality.

ive been able to handle my 400wrhp 87 TII fairly well. ive lost control once taking a 50mph turn in the rain in an intersection, was scary, but it was 3am in the morning on a tuesday so there were no cars.

my JIC suspension really helps, but when its wet outside, anything can go

The only car I ever owned was an FB, so no LSD or ABS on it.

Learned how to drive in an 87 Jeep Wrangler. Want to talk about learning how to control something on the ice, that sombitch would swap ends before you realized you were even moving.

The 94 F-150 didn't have LSD or ABS, it was just slower then the wrangler at swaping because of the wheel base.

The 03 F-250 has ABS and I'm considering disabling it, can't stand it. Makes me feel like I don't have any control.

I think I would do fine. 1987 Honda accord, 1988 honda accord, 1986 RX-7, 1990 Acura Legend, '02 Z06. Only car with ABS, Traction Control, and Stability Control I've driven is the Z06.

I have the 06 LX and I have ABS or EBD (haven't read the owner's manual and it says EBD on the window sticker, but ABS on the cluster gauge) and it came with front rotors and rear drums. There are curtain side airbags for me, my passenger and even for the rear passengers.
06 > 05 :D

My previous truck had ABS...one of the worst things ever invented!! It was always kicking in causing me to slide

is that a challenge? i think its time to have a 90whp touge battle. :D

My DD has ABS, but no TC. When I'm hard-stopping in an emergency, there's always that thought in the back of my mind that says "Push harder if you need to. The ABS will catch you if you go too far." It's a nice, reassuring feeling to know that you can quickly hold the car at threshold.

Having said that, my first car will have an LSD, but no ABS or traction control.

YOU'RE ON!

Then we can take them to the quarter mile for blistering high speeds of up to 80mph.

I personally hate ABS. I've had a few cars with it and it always seems to kick in at a time when you wouldn't want it to. Traction Control is also a joke IMO. I have both right now in the company car, but I'd rather have neither.
