The asshole bossman just came into my office carrying two new hammers that I picked up at a supply place yesterday, here is the conversation:

"Did you go pick these up yesterday?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Why the fuck did you do that, there are five hammers out there already!"
"Five hammers... seven guys that need hammers... I'm tired of listening to people bitch about needing a hammer."
"Goddamnit, this shit is expensive why the fuck do we need more hammers?"
"If you didn't keep all the new ones I bought three years ago locked in your fucking tool box, maybe I wouldn't need to go pick up more."
"This is fucking bullshit, these are too expensive to have this many around."
"So $15 a hammer is too much to have laying around when we have multiples of thousand dollar pieces of equipment just laying around not being used every day?"

he storms off.

Seriously... bitching about $30 in expenses that will save people time so they don't have to search for a goddamned hammer.

God I really need to quit

thats the tip of the iceberg man. O-ring tools, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, asswipe, rags, firstaid kits, etc etc. I am the one they come to because they know I'll take care of it and take the ass reaming for em.

I just hope bossman doesn't notice that I went out and bought two new wrench sets because half the old ones were either broken or worn out. Ever seen an open end wrench spread so far from use it can fit stuff almost an 1/8" bigger then it should? Yeah... that was 90% of our wrenches.

no, I haven't....what make?A few K-T Tools and a whole shitload of juck wrenches bossman picked up on some tool auction down in SLC for dirt cheap that the only markings on them were "CHINA" and the wrench size.

time for Snap-On?
yeah right, you should have heard him flip out when I even suggested craftsman. He's pissed about $30 in hammers, imagine if I went and spent a couple hundred on wrenches? Especially since wrenches have a tendency to vanish around here. The two sets I just picked up, $35 each set. They will be shot in two years tops.

No you don't. There is no such thing as a perfect job. If you left every job because of shit like that you will be doing it a lot.

Dude those tools that they have at Lowes, what the hell is the name....Kobalt. They are actually pretty damn good and fairly cheap.

I am *SO* glad I left when I did.

02July07 I'm officially being moved into a test engineering technician position, still have paperowrk and everything to make it official, but July i'm training replacements for what I'm doing now, and I'm moving into my own area (Most likely a cube with my own area in the lab) upstairs with the engineers. It's also a $ raise :D

The director of operations told me I needed to go to Dewey's (local bar) around 3pm today.... I just got back to my apartmetn and unloaded my truck (It's now 23:15) but I'm really glad I went to the bar.... holy shit did I hear things about other people's attitudes, who's staying and who's going, etc... shit I probably should have heard about on the job. Also, they realized just how much work I do around the place that didn't happen when I was on vacation.

Anyways, I need sleep. And yes Sup, you do need a new job.

Just be careful about some of their stuff.

fuck harbor freight. Have you ever worked every day all day with the cheap shit from there? That stuff usually is junk within a week or two after purchase.

Of anyone here, only Animal has any clue what I'm talking about since he actually worked here with me. YZF, you are right. I've tried to get fired and it didn't work, did stuff that would have got me fired at any other job and here I still am.

Some of it's great

Especially when you need that specialty tool every once in a while and it's a fraction of the cost there.

A great deal of my daily use tools are Snap-On, Bluepoint, and MAC, with some S&K, Matco, and Ingresol Rand, with the occasional Craftsman Pro. . . But I do get a whole lot of tools from Harbor Freight and use them all the time.

Just be careful what things you buy, and acknowledge the fact that most of it is total crap that can't be used the same way as brand name tools.

Also, there are some tools that you simply can't screw up on without them being useless.

Yes I have, and you know what, it's not so cheap these days. I mean, a $2.99 socket set isn't a great investment, but the Pittsburgh line of tools is getting better, and I'll take $30 w/ lifetime replacement over $200 w/ lifetime replacement.

And I got a sick deal on a racing jack, but only because they screwed the ad up.

Talk about a penny pincher. I won't bitch about expensing items that'll save time.

I bitched out a lady once for asking me to expense a pack of spoons so she could eat her lunch. Pretty stupid on her part to even ask.

I just got my ass chewed about grinders.

The grinders we are using are all 10 - 12 years old and starting to burn up or break and I just got reamed because the guys are breaking them an I ordered a replacement.

Only a month and a half left... only a month and a half...

All of my personal tools are craftsman. They get the job done for me.

Back to work stuff, I'm so glad my boss isn't a cheap bastard. He will buy us anything we need if we think it will improve our efficiency/productivity (I'm a mechanical designer, sit at a desk on AutoCAD all day). We all have $300 chairs, dual 19" LCDs, ton's of cool little software add-on's, whatever mouse we want (5 buttons FTW), and we all go to breakfast every friday morning and he always pays. He also keeps us stocked up on Houston's Peanuts. I love working for this company.

On the topic of Supper's boss being cheap....

Die grinders with cutoff wheels.

He kept the new wheels in his office or his locked toolbox. He wouldn't give you a new one unless you were grinding off the bolt holding the fucking cutoff wheel onto the grinder.

Company probably ended up paying the employees more to fuck around with these shitty-ass worn out cutoff discs than a new one would have cost to begin with. I still laugh about that to this day.

But, I'm glad I don't have to deal with that anymore. One of my projects is to build six new test fixtures for the analog assemblies. I was told to make it work right and make it work well. The guy doing all the programming used to work for NI, and he has this thing for NI parts. I need a USB-Serial cable. Would a $20 radio-shark cable work? Yup. But they want me to spend >$90 for the NI USB-serial cables. Which is sweet, because I'm probably going to end up cutting them apart and shortening the cables, and I know NI is going to use good quality cable rather than the shitty radioshark stuff.

Also, the company bought lunch for all 50+ employees every day this week. Quiznos today, Panda Express yesterday, pizza tuesday.... 50 people x 5 days = 250 mouths to feed over the week. Assume $5/mouth, that's $1250 for the week.

I like working for a company that's making lots of profits. :)

The bill from out supply place was just faxed over and I grabbed that shit as quick as I could and gave it to the secretary so bossman wouldn't see the box of earplugs I got for in the shop, the wrench set, the other hammers, the punch set, etc...

thats just it, we are making more profit now then ever before in the history of this company and he is becoming even more of a tight ass. He told me today that we can't replace any of the worn out equipment because he doesn't want to add any more value to this company incase it sells. And if it does sell, the new owners are going to be pissed because they are going to have to drop several thousand dollars replacing old worn out equipment.

Shit, even my mag equipment (specialty stuff) needs replaced so I don't have to keep fucking with it to get it to work on the job. But think I can get a new yoke, fuck no. But the bossman has two brand fucking new ones in his truck. He gets the good/new gear and we get the junk. Its bullshit to the fullest.

On the topic of jobs fucking sucking, check this out:

From my boss concerning my expense report of 350 dollars for the month of June

-This expense report is denied. I have not been following the correct policy on expense reports. From here on in please follow the formula below for milage and make the necessary changes to your expense report.

Total amount of miles from home to Fishkill minus your regular commute to POK. That number will be the milage reimbursement you are entitled to.

Example-
Home to Fishkill is 45 miles
Home to Pok is 30 miles
You are entitled 15 miles to expense for travel reimbursement.

Please make these changes and re-submit your expense report for approval.

Thanks
Mike

From me in rebutal:

Distance from POK IBM to EFK IBM is 14 Miles each way. I take The taconic to I-84 from my house to Fishkill. This figures out to be 26 miles each way. My Normal Commute to Poughkeepsie is appx 12 miles. Either way, it virtually figures out to the same distance (14 miles each way). Advise what you want me to do.

Sounds like a certain Fortune 500 Company is ran by heebs.

Dunno about businesses, but when buying/selling a house there's a lot of cheap improvements you can do to raise the value of the house and hopefully get more out of it. Little shit, like replacing the lightswitch and outlet cover plates. Hell, the people who bought my parents house insisted on having the 15-year-old wood siding redone. Rather than buy the house for less $ and going with what kind of siding they wanted, my parents went with uber-cheap fly-by-night siding company and had the siding done on the whole house, and made a good profit on that from the house. Seems like a few new shiny tools could bump up the value of the company on the bottom line.

All the more reason to GTFO of there and find a job at a different company.

Actually, you can thank Uncle Sam for that one. I currently have a 60 mile round trip to my office, which means I have to deduct that 60 miles from every other business trip I make. That's 240 miles every week I won't receive reimbursement for.

But, I'm living where I WANT to live, and will be moving in the spring to another area I still want to live, but closer to my office.

fell for the crying... heh. Actually, I worked out there on the shop floor for almost 6 years. I know what its like to be short on tools and have to go hunting around the shop for something. It isn't about people using them at exactly the same moment, its the time lost every day looking for crap. From looking at it on the productivity side, the more tools we have the more productive time the employees will have (theoretically).

People in my shop need to return their tools to where they found it. Lazy fucks.
