sethster 08-15-2006, 06:36 PM Has anyone else noticed that the Kia Rio has started to make some noise in the automotive market? I’ve been working with Kia lately and everyone has been talking about the JD Power award they recently won. It came a shock to me cuz I like Kia cars but its not something from them that I expected. However, it is cool to see a car company working hard on improving their cars and their image for real. Anyone know what I’m talking about and agree with me? MazdaTed 08-15-2006, 06:48 PM Welcome sethster. I havent really heard much about kia's, And I work at an autoparts store. Dont sell many parts for them though, so Im guessing that they have pretty reliable cars, I dont know though. And I guess that the main reason that I havent heard much about them because I usually ignore things that arent about cars with wankel engines (rotary engines). DeRFmAn 08-15-2006, 06:56 PM My GF has one and it breaks down more then my RX-7. She has had it in the shop 3 times this past year and its a newer car. It even gets babied. Its a Kia Optima. POS in my book. Never gonna buy one. I also heard from her friend that had a spectra that she spent more money keeping her then NEW kia on the road then she did on the payments. MazdaTed 08-15-2006, 07:51 PM My GF has one and it breaks down more then my RX-7. Is that possible? DeRFmAn 08-15-2006, 11:15 PM indeed, in the past year my car was only down due to me doing a rearend swap with a gsl. hers goes down once every 4 months like clock work. Even if its just for a weekend but 2 outta 3 times its been a week. DeRFmAn 08-15-2006, 11:15 PM  Is that possible? so yes VERY possible. Tofuball 08-16-2006, 05:00 AM I rented a Kia Optima once. It was in 2002 I belive. It was a total pile :P Say No To Pistons 08-16-2006, 07:28 AM  Is that possible? same with POS Saturns and 1.8t Jetta's... DeRFmAn 08-16-2006, 04:07 PM nah man I had a saturn and I beat the living hell outta that car, it took it and wanted more. Just my own personal exp. SpartanTS 08-16-2006, 04:14 PM Kia's/Hyundai's are a mixed bag. I know someone with a Spectra and couldn't be happier. I've heard horror stories about the Optima, which surprisingly is an attractive car (exterior). My sister bought a new Sonata V6, which is a helluva car, surprisingly. SpartanTS 08-16-2006, 04:41 PM basically a complete rip-off of the Accord, but a very good car nonetheless If you're referring to the tail lights, at least Hyundai got them right. The taillights on the Accord (03-04) look like teh poo poo. And not to mention I could name 10 other cars that have similar tails. Otherwise, the car doesn't resemble the Accord in any way, shape, form, or fashion. SpartanTS 08-16-2006, 04:56 PM disagree the Sonota was completely inspired by the Accord, no question about it Inspired as in rear design? Other than that, there's nothing similar. They want a piece of the Camry/Accord pie, but they can only take a piece of the Altima/Galant/Fusion,etc. pie for now. The majority aren't going to cross shop the Sonata with the Accord. Hades12 08-24-2006, 11:43 AM indeed, in the past year my car was only down due to me doing a rearend swap with a gsl. hers goes down once every 4 months like clock work. Even if its just for a weekend but 2 outta 3 times its been a week. what have the problems been? Supper 08-24-2006, 12:15 PM KiA is where Hyundai was 10 years ago, or at least that's my take on it :werd: DeRFmAn 08-24-2006, 02:51 PM what have the problems been? not sure exactly, I don't really ask about it. I did ask her what was wrong with it and her reply was "its korean" so never bothered to ask again. Grand Wizard Hornsby 08-28-2006, 12:43 PM not sure exactly, I don't really ask about it. I did ask her what was wrong with it and her reply was "its korean" so never bothered to ask again. yee haw thats good enough reason for an american grand wizard such as myself to spurn somethin!! One day me and my wife were shoppin and she accidentally knocked down a bottle ketchup from the shelf and someone looked at me and said "shes mexican" and i divorced her raght theyen and theyer... yee haww!!! Cosby 08-28-2006, 11:11 PM you should have just beat her rtryb2200 08-29-2006, 05:17 AM I thought they had a 10year 100k mile warranty..? DeRFmAn 08-29-2006, 06:40 PM Yeah but it doesn't cover everything. Aren't Hyndais (spelling) Korean? If so she likes the Tib. She is just pissy when it comes to that car. She isn't an all american car driver, she had a cavalier as her first car but has shown much better taste since then. ComradeGiant 08-30-2006, 03:38 PM KiA is where Hyundai was 10 years ago, or at least that's my take on it Which is funny because if you park them side by side they are clearly the same car. bacek 08-30-2006, 04:21 PM i thought you were talking about this ghetto black girl i knew in high school who was on the spirit team sbrxguy 08-31-2006, 12:03 AM Has anyone else noticed that the Kia Rio has started to make some noise in the automotive market? I’ve been working with Kia lately and everyone has been talking about the JD Power award they recently won. It came a shock to me cuz I like Kia cars but its not something from them that I expected. However, it is cool to see a car company working hard on improving their cars and their image for real. Anyone know what I’m talking about and agree with me? I actually have an 04 spectra ex (new body style) as my DD. I've actually been very impressed. More comfortable than my civic ex I had before it. Gets decent mileage (31mpg). And nothing has broken on it, just fill it with gas, change the oil. Pretty easy keeper. I have been very impressed by it. Even after 2 years it drives good, and doesn't feel "dated" like my civic did. Yark79 10-06-2006, 11:06 PM I've wondered about Kias/Hyundais for while. They look like they have a good warranty, but apparently its very conditional. They're look pretty descent, but I wouldn't buy one for fear of it being a peice of crap. I do like the Kia Sorento though, its a damn good looking SUV (as far as SUVs go). Mirage 10-14-2006, 12:48 AM For what its worth, my limited experience with Kias has been a total mixed bag. My cousin's is like an old Toyota, its been running forever; no problems. Change the oil, regular service, blah blah its beyond happy. Meanwhile, my ex's parents got her one and it had small bs problems every month like clock work. Eventually traded it for a (surprise, surprise) Honda Civic. sbrxguy 10-14-2006, 10:52 PM Honda's are overrated and overpriced. I would buy a mazda, nissan, dodge, ford, hyundai, kia first, fuck honda. TonyTurboII 10-15-2006, 10:59 PM Mazdas arent overpriced? Have you seen the price of a Mazda6, or an Rx8? SpartanTS 10-16-2006, 09:43 AM Mazdas arent overpriced? Have you seen the price of a Mazda6, or an Rx8? Mazda6 is priced competitively i'd say. The Rx8 is overpriced considering that torque isn't an available option apparently and you have to rev the living shit out of it to get power. Add in boy racer/teenage girl styling and you get a car hardly worth living with. Had a ride in one recently...If you're just cruising along and decide to get on it in 3rd gear, that car goes absolutely no where. |
