I had a camry loaner earlier this year, the 4 banger. Didnt like it. Too squishy and the transmission (auto) drove me BATSHIT! It couldnt decide on a gear at highway speeds, wtf!

I'm not a big fan of mainstream sedans. My parents had an 1991 Accord SE for years, and while it was a reliable car by far, it was a boring car. Still have it to this day and it still works great too.
At least it was a manual.

The toyota manufacturing style was copied by many, many US firms after it became obvious that the Japanese were kicking our asses economically, as well as technically. The modern-day term for it is "lean manufacturing".

The Japanese were kicking our ass because the US were asleep at the wheel and letting the unions bleed them dry

My dad's got a '93 Camry XLE, he's closing in on 170,000 now. It's been good.
Timing belt went about 25,000 miles ago, but it's a noninterference engine, so nothing bad happened. And a few years ago something funny happened with the transmission... a vacuum solenoid got stuck and it wouldn't shift properly. He's also blown all the shock struts, and they've all been replaced.
As much as I don't want one, because they're so... average, I'll buy one. They take the mileage, give great MPG, and decently roomy. 4 or 5 grand takes one, too. Gotta love it.
I really like Toyota's reliabilty.
My dad's last car was a '86 Tercel 4dr hatch. Tiny as all get out. But he put nearly 300,000 on it before he sold it and got the Camry in '98. That car was a crazy little thing, but man did it ever last.

best car I ever had was probably my '89 BMW 325i. The older german cars are tanks. I don't think anyone makes a car as good as those are. New german cars are stupid complex.
New toyotas and vw's are junk. I wouldn't buy one made after 1996.
I have only owned a few american cars, but they were all great vehicles, for what they were. If there were more sporty options that weren't corvettes (which until recently, I had no chance of affording), I'd probably own more.

Nono, new toyotas are pretty good, VW's are overpriced deutsche sheiss. The only one i'd get would be the TDI, and that's only until the the EPA wisens up and lets the diesel passenger market open up.

I guess you never heard of a certain car called a "beetle" that they produced for 65 years. I'd say that's pretty good. They were generally good cars in the eighties and 90's up to about 97 i'd guess.

Not just even manufacturing, they are being applied in pretty much every business in America. My bank does a lot of work with 6 Sigma.
