What were you doing on September 11, 2001?
I was in the 6th grade at my JHS. on the 5th floor gym next to the windows watching the towers burn from across the river. then watching the towers fall one by one. No one knew what was going on. kids were crying worrying about their parents (a few of thier parents actually worked at the WTC). we were all scared and confused.
hours later we were moved to the auditorium and we saw soldiers with m4's and m16's standing around the school. parents started gathering at the door wanting to pick their kids up. yelling and crying. we had school buses that day to escort us home. HUmmers were outside of the school.
later that day at home i was watching the news. hearing abulances and police cars pass by every few minites. still confused. no one was in the streets, which is unusual for NYC. ofcourse i was scared too since i was only 11-12 years old knowing something horrible had happened.]
even a month after 9/11/01. i was still in denial. i didnt believe what i saw. i didnt believe what was going on. i sometimes still feel that way now, 5 years after.
edit: ALmost forgot... people were running to the nearest hospitals donating phone chargers, canned foods, towels, blood, ANYTHING they can use.

I was working in Lewes, Del. on a middle school roof. A co-worker's wife called him and thats how we first heard about the first plane hitting the WTC. A couple hours later school was shut down and they told us we had to stop working. So we went back to the hotel and gathered in one hotel room to drink beer and watch the news.

Wait, I was in 6th grade too. your as old as me? You probably remember what I said I did when the first plane struck on 9/11.
But at school, people were saying a lot of stuff. I was confused really. I didn't take it seriously, I mean I was 11, I didn't live near the East Coast, and I don't have many relatives. There was a scare though when someone said they might get the Mall Of America, which isn't that far away from where I live.

I was very early in my freshman year of college. I didn't have class till later on tuesday that day. My dad called me from his office in the city early in the morning waking me up: "DO YOU SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING?!"
me: what?
my dad: a plane just crashed into one of the twin towers! put the news on!
I woke everyone up on my floor and we were all glued to the TV like "wtf!"

I was in my car looking for a job (fired from Intel) when i heard it on the radio. I didnt know the gravity of the effects until later. And I didnt land a job until a month later as a janitor/school bus driver.

My dad woke me up early, at 7:20. I was pissed, and then I was just stunned when I actually turned the news on. I was out of the room when the second tower collapsed, and I was in class when the first one dropped. I was in 7th grade.

younguns.... damn.
I was in my senior year of high school, 1st plane had already hit before I woke up and just as I was leaving the 2nd plane hit.
It was interesting though, some of the teachers were like "NO U CANNOT WATCH TV WE R HEAR 2 LURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!@!!!11!" and others were like "This is a huge day in American history... My class today is cancelled, but feel free to stick around and watch TV....."
Needless to say most of the "U R HEAR 2 LURN!!!!!1!!" teachers had most of the class walk out on them. The rest of the week was interesting as well.

wow
I was in grade 12. I guess I'd have been 17 (just) since my birthday is sept. 10.
I had missed a day earlier in the week about some co-op seminar I had to take so I drove to a different school that day, we had heard something about the WTC during the seminar (it was just in the morning for an hour) - so after that I left and went to where I worked (2-4-1 pizza) and watched the news there for an hour or two, then I went home and watched the news all day.
oh - I was on IRC most of the time too and I had actually been in #newyork the previous night and left the window open, I had a log but don't anymore, it was pretty neat.
