Would you sell out?
Lots of posting going on so I figured why don't I; the one with a constantly wondering mind; come up with a new thread.
I was watching some youtube and listening to some music during lunch and watched Wierd Al's eBay which is a parody of Backstreet Boys I want it that way.
Thinking of the Backstreet Boys, I thought to myself..."what fucking faggots" initially...but then I went in to a greater scheme of things and thought.."well fuck...I would act like a faggot and see gay music to earn a few million dollars. Probably get my wangzy doodle soaked a few times too."
Getting on with things...My question to you (and the reason for the post without further delay is this:
Would you be a sellout to make money or keep it real?
Discuss work scenarios, the above mentioned (music), conforming to impress a girl's family, whatever rings a bell. Let me know.

depends on what "keeping it real" means, I guess. For guys like Donnie Wahlburg, they just wanted to sing and dance - and make a living at it. So when the opportunity for NKOTB came along, was it selling out? Sure the music is plastic and disposable, but he got to perform, which was his goal.
Then his little brother did the same thing with crappy rap/dance music, which slingshotted him into an acting career. That could be called selling out, or leveraging your career. Now Mark Wahlburg is a respected actor.

Selling out is pretty subjective, as Manntis points out.
Some of these people just happen to like the kinds of things they are doing, and get all spruced up to go out and do it, such as the example above. They get molded and packaged and go out and do their thing. Menudo, Backstreet Boys, etc just happen to be....ghey....from the get-go and that's their thing.
Others start out kinda polished and packaged, and then change to what they really want to be later on when they have the name and the money to do so. It's a form of selling out early to get their names out there, so they go through the motions of what seems cool in the pop world at the time. Later on, if they have enough pull, they can break out and do other things more in line with what they wanted to do but couldn't at first.
Still others never sell out and remain true to what they are no matter what. Motorhead would be a good example. It don't matter what's going on in the world, Lemmy's going to do his thing. If it sells, it sells. If it don't, it don't. Simple as that.
The ones that piss me off are the ones that come up true to what they want to be, and then wuss out after they see that what they are ain't working fast enough.
Def Leppard would be a good example of that (IMO anyway). They started out sounding pretty good, but then fell into the Mutt Lange thing. High-n-Dry actually sounded pretty good, but then they pulled out all the queer stops for Pyromania and .....BOOM! After that, they were caught up in a machine that demanded that they always must out-sell their last project. The only real way to do that is make the next album more wimpy than the last one. Yes, they got famous beyond their own dreams, but they had to compromise what they were to do it. Not only that, but they paved the way for a million other bands to do the same. Pretty soon, every band had to go out and make millions by pussing out or they were not considered worth a damn by the business. On the flip side, if they did go wussy and make millions, then they weren't worth a damn in the eyes of real rock and rollers (or so it was back then).
Krokus was another example. They started out kicking ass, but then eventually fell to the gay side and bleached their hair and put out shit like "The Blitz". The only one in the band who was against the turn to gayness, Chris Von Rohr (original member/ Bassist) gets whacked from the band and off they go in to sell-out oblivion.
WTF.
I don't know. It's all relative to what makes you...you. Some could say that we are selling out if we have a shit job instead of the one we want. Others could say that it's just a stepping stone toward the prize of getting to do what we want eventually.

You bet your ass I would.
When around a girl's parents, I don't swear as much and generally try to be a little more respectful than I normally am...
Basically, if the money is good enough, anything is possible.
